Oscar de La Renta

"Walk like you have three men walking behind you".  One of the many fashionable lessons Oscar de La Renta has taught us over the years. It was confirmed that Mr. de la Renta passed away after battling cancer. He was 82.

Born in 1932 in the Dominican Republic, the designer left home at the tender age of 18 to study art in Madrid. It was there Mr. de la Renta started his love affair with fashion, soon landing a position with Cristobal Balenciaga. After, he moved to work for Lanvin in paris and eventually settled in New York City, where he eventually started his eponymous label.

Oscar de la Renta has dressed some of the biggest names today, including icons like Jacqueline Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cameron Diaz, Amy Adams, Penelope Cruz, and Oprah, amongst countless others. He is survived by his wife Annette Reed and son Moises.

Below are images of the late designer's works, including quotes from the designer himself.  Rest in Couture, Oscar de La Renta.

"Fashion is about dressing according to what's fashionable. Style is more about being yourself."
