It's that time of year again, ladies and gentlemen: Fashion Week. That magic time when models fill the streets and subway platforms, and you start to think twice when reaching for that second glazed doughnut (go for it, I wont tell). The spring/summer shows always have a certain air about them . . . The colors, the fabrics, the dresses. They give you hope for a sunny vacation day right before New York is plunged into a snowy spell. This year was no different. Designers brought their A game, presenting shows that were both bold in color and fabric choice. I'll be talking about 3 of my favorite shows: Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera, and BCBGMAXAZRIA.
Michael Kors was one of my favorite shows this season. The collection, with its flora and sailor nuances, was classic Michael Kors to the core. With strong chic European influences, the collection featured those famous MK knits we have all come to love as well as gorgeous bold floral patterns and intricate floral applique. The crisp whites, chunky knits, and use of gingham gave us the classic "Summertime in the Northeast" feel that Michael brings us in much of his work. A lesson in classic Americana fashion, the Michael Kors show gave us those staples we have come to love, while also staying relevant.
The Carolina Herrera SS15 show was elegance at its finest. Its polished clean look mixed with its clean tailoring and bold patterns made this collection a must-have among the elite jet set crowd. Carolina is no stranger to florals. With this collection, she managed to revisit this theme: Mixing tones with bold floral patterns, making it effortlessly modern. If there was one word to describe this collection, it would be RICH!
Bohemian elegance at its finest, the BCBGMAXAZRIA show always manages to have an air of sexiness about it. The soft feminine color palette and deep v-cuts upheld the classic BCBG sex appeal. The floral prints and flowy whimsical fabrics made the collection perfect for the warm spring/summer season ahead. Contrasting stiff controlled belts with flowy garments, BCBG had a modern edge to it. BCBG's practicality and wearability make it a must-have in every modern woman's closet.
A few of my favorites, these were just a small collection of the designers that showed during the world-famous fashion week. Stay tuned to future posts as Courtney and I rework these styles into everyday wearable numbers . . . because you know we are balling on a budget. xX
